How do you make your playing safer and more expressive? How can proper fingering help with the shaping of phrases? Where are you in the bow, where is the bow on the string and what difference does it make? Bring one or more pieces, old or new, or just listen. There will be some sessions of cello ensembles to play in too. Exchange and try out new ideas, experiment and join in discussions. Penelope Lynex is a highly experienced performer, tutor at the Royal Academy of Music and author of Cello Ideas: A Practical Guide. Recommended minimum standard Grade 5.

 This wonderful cello ensemble piece has just been published by SJ Music.
The previously unpublished work by Gordon Jacob was commissioned by Florence Hooton in 1981 for her students at London’s Royal Academy of Music. It has 4 movements. The first 3 are based on Gordon Jacob’s trombone octet written in 1981 and the 4th is taken from his serenade for solo cello. Parts are of varying difficulty ranging from grade 6 to grade 8+. Total running time is about 15 minutes.
